The Importance of the Mission

In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul passionately expresses the importance of the mission to share the gospel with others. He declares that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth (Romans 1:16). This mission is not just for a select few, but for all who have been saved by the grace of God.

Paul emphasizes the urgency of this mission by asking, How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14). This highlights the crucial role of those who are called to share the gospel with others.

The Eternally Critical Mission

The mission to share the gospel is not merely a temporary endeavor; it is an eternally critical task. Salvation cannot come through any other means, and the gospel is the only way that people can come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Paul further emphasizes the importance of this mission by stating, So faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). This means that people cannot believe in Jesus unless they have first heard the gospel preached.

The Role of Preachers and Churches

While the mission of sharing the gospel belongs to all believers, there is also a specific role for preachers and churches in this endeavor. Paul writes, How shall they preach except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! (Romans 10:15).

Preachers and churches are called to equip and empower believers to share the gospel with others. They provide training, resources, and encouragement to help believers fulfill their part in the mission.

The Weak Things of the World

God often chooses the weak things of the world to accomplish His purposes. This is evident in the calling of preachers and those who are sent to share the gospel. They are often ordinary people who feel inadequate for the task, but God uses them to make a powerful impact on the world.

Paul’s conversion to Christianity is an example of how God can use unexpected people to share the gospel. While his faith journey was marked by challenges, his influence has undoubtedly had a lasting impact on moving the Gospel forward.

The Urgency of the Mission

The mission to share the gospel is not something to be taken lightly. It is an important task that must be carried out with a sense of urgency. People are perishing without Christ, and we have a responsibility to share the gospel with them.

Paul concludes his exhortation by saying, Therefore, let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). This reminds us that we are not alone in this mission. God is with us and will empower us to share the gospel with others.

Conclusion

The mission to share the gospel is one of the most important tasks that we can undertake. It is a task that is both eternally critical and urgently important. We must not take this mission lightly, but must boldly proclaim the gospel to all who will hear.
